The national pilot program with an investment of 6.3 billion yuan for the conservation and restoration of mountains, forests, farmlands, lakes and grass in the Southern Taihang Mountains was generally completed. The ecological restoration of key areas and remnant mines along the Yellow River basin funded by the central government was finished.
The construction of an ecological corridor on the right bank of the Yellow River was basically completed, with an afforestation totaling 112.7 thousand mu (1 mu equals 0.0667 hectares).
A total of 5.878 billion yuan was financed for the relocation of residents in the Yellow River beach area.
According to an ecological conservation compensation agreement signed between Henan and Shandong, Shandong will pay Henan 126 million yuan as compensation funds in 2021 and 2022.
Drone inspections were carried out on the main stream of the Yellow River and 19 first-class tributaries in investigating and regulating the serious environmental issues, which was the first "environmental scanning" for the main stream of the Yellow River and its main tributaries.
Campaigns were launched in order to fight against the dumping of solid waste in the Yellow River, build “green shield” for nature reserves, and remove the underlying environmental hazards caused by hazardous wastes, tailings ponds and dangerous chemicals.
Air quality in the Yellow River basin improved significantly with the average density of PM10 and PM2.5 decreasing 7.9 percent and 14.8 percent respectively. Counties of Luanchuan, Ruyang, Luoning, Songxian, Lushi and Mianchi saw their air quality reach the Chinese National Air Quality Standard Class II.
Water environment was steadily improved and the proportion of surface water graded Class I to III among 35 sections reached 88.2 percent.
Soil environment remained stable.
