Henan’s H1 GDP Sees 1.3 Percentage Points Higher than the National Average
At the 19th session of the Standing Committee of the 13th Henan Provincial People’s Congress held in Zhengzhou on the morning of July 28, the Report on the Implementation of the Plan for Henan’s Economic and Social Development in H1 (hereinafter referred to as the report) was delivered.

The report shows that in the first quarter of 2020, Henan’s GDP decreased by 6.7 percent year-on-year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which was the first negative growth since the quarterly statistics in 1992. Amid this situation, under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as the core and with joint efforts of people across the province, Henan coordinated pandemic prevention and control with economic and social development, made major strategic achievements in preventing the spread of COVID-19, and consolidated the basis for economic recovery and sound development. From January to June, Henan’s GDP (1.3 percentage points higher than the national average) saw a year-on-year decrease of 0.3 percent, but up 6.4 percentage points from the first quarter.

In addition, the report states Henan’s economic performance and social development in the first half of the year from 6 aspects, such as powerful, orderly and effective pandemic prevention and control measures, generally stable economic performance, rising market demand, implementation of preferential policies, development of new growth engines, improvement of basic living standards, etc.
