Whooper Swans Bred Naturally in Sanmenxia -- City of Whooper Swans in China
A miracle appeared at the Swan Lake in Sanmenxia again. A couple of left-behind whooper swans successfully bred naturally in Sanmenxia again. Early in the morning of May 18, Zhang Mingyun, head of the Whooper Swan Protection Branch of the Sanmenxia Volunteers Association, told the news to the reporter happily by phone.
According to the report, the incubation of whooper swans was discovered by the management staff of Sanmenxia’s Swan Lake Wetland Park when they were on patrol. After that, the whooper swans were taken good care of immediately by specially-assigned staffs. On May 15, the whooper swans successfully gave birth to 5 “baby swans”.
Zhang told the reporter that he arrived at the scene immediately after hearing the news on May 15, when the baby swans were still in the shallows. After careful observation, he found that the water level of the lake was shallow. To solve this problem, Zhang contacted the wetland management office to open the floodgate and release the water, the water level finally increased by nearly 20 centimeters. In the afternoon, the precious photos of the baby swans in the water were taken.
“This is a miracle of natural breeding and incubation of wild whooper swans in the south of the Yellow River after 2015.” The expert from Henan Provincial Forestry Bureau said the whooper swans are extremely strict with the environment, and the two successful breeding cases indicate that the living environment of the whooper swans in Sanmenxia has reached a high level.
It is reported that in order to protect the whooper swans, Sanmenxia, known as the “City of Whooper Swans in China”, has implemented many regulations like the “Management Measures for White Swan Protection Area in Sanmenxia”, adopted a series of protection measures, and arranged special funds for whooper swans protection, to create conditions for whooper swans to spend winter in Sanmenxia.
