Henan to Hold 1,836 Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibitions during the Spring Festival
The Spring Festival is drawing near. On January 9, the reporter learned from the Department of Culture and Tourism of Henan Province that cultural departments across the province are stepping up preparations for colorful folk customs activities and a number of intangible cultural heritage demonstrations, so that people can enjoy the most traditional Spring Festival atmosphere.
According to the statistics, during the Spring Festival, Henan Province will hold 1,836 intangible cultural heritage exhibitions, including 411 key events.
Experience traditional Spring Festival atmosphere in traditional temple fair
It is not a real Chinese New Year without temple fairs. In Henan Province, many temple fairs, such as the the temple fair of Taihao Fuxi Mausoleum, temple fair of Xunxian County and temple fair of Guanlin Temple, have become an important way to inherit intangible cultural heritage. Lion dance, stilts walking, land boating (folk dance), Shehuo (Chinese folk performance)...In addition to these traditional programs, cultural departments at all levels in Henan Province have promoted intangible cultural heritage projects such as acrobatics, paper-cutting, woodblock New Year paintings and embroidery to be displayed at the temple fairs.
At the same time, as a big province of traditional opera, traditional opera party is essential. One of the highlights of this year is the performance organized to showcase the achievements of rare operas that Henan Province has been sparing no effort to save in recent years. There will be a series of rare opera parties held in Henan Province, such as Henan Zhuizi (a kind of Henan opera), shadow puppetry, string opera, Siping Diao Drama and Erjiaxian Opera.
Intangible cultural heritage exhibition venues invite you to "interact"
This year, the intangible cultural heritage exhibition venues will not be closed in Henan Province. According to Liu Chunxiao, director of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Division of the Department of Culture and Tourism of Henan Province, this year, the department specially selected the "top ten" intangible cultural heritage exhibition venues for the public, including Zhengzhou Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Hall, Henan Opera Sound Museum, Kaifeng Zhuxian Town Woodcut Spring Festival Pictures Hall, Chinese Folk Art Exhibition Hall, Zhaogeli Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Hall, Xuchang Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Hall, China Jun Porcelain Cultural Park, Zhoukou Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Hall, Shanzhou Silo-cave, and Grand Canal Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Hall.
Liu said that the venues will be open free of charge during the Spring Festival, and inheritors of the intangible cultural heritage such as Ren Helin, a national representative inheritor, will also perform traditional skills on site, which can be closely interacted with by the audiences.
The "three major" intangible cultural heritage activities will be held
In recent years, the “three major” intangible cultural heritage activities like China (Huaiyang) Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition, Story-telling Festival in Majie Village of Baofeng County, and Lao Tzu's Birthday Ceremony have been held in Henan Province. With its profound cultural connotation and unique local characteristics, the activities enjoy a good reputation throughout the country, and attract many national intangible cultural heritage projects and national inheritors for exhibitions and performances every year.
From March 8 to April 7, “Zhongyuan Ancient Rhyme -- The 10th China (Huaiyang) Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition” will be held. At that time, Chenzhou War Drums performed by 380 people from 145 poverty-stricken villages in Huaiyang County will be showed at the opening ceremony.
This year’s Story-telling Festival in Majie Village of Baofeng County, will comprehensively display Baofeng’s integral protection achievements at the Chinese Folk Art Exhibition Hall.
From March 21 to April 19, during the period of Lao Tzu’s Birthday Ceremony · Henan Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition (Traditional Opera) in 2019, more than 10 traditional opera projects of provincial intangible cultural heritage will be performed, so that people can feel the unique charm of Henan traditional opera.
